Get Paid to Blog

LinkPrimer is quickly becoming the ‘hot thing’ in the blogging community for several reasons.

  1. You get a free blog that you can use for whatever you want (no porn etc)
  2. The site shares ad space with you so you get paid when people click or buy stuff through the site.
  3. You also get ad space on the people you refer so you can make money off them as well

The site administrator expects LinkPrimer to eventually rival other social networks and says he will make adjustments to the site as needed to best fuel the growth of the network and put as much money into the pockets of the people that help fuel the growth - its members.

My experience with MySpace

When I first started trying to make money online, my mentor told me it would be a tough road to start and recommended that I create a MySpace account to meet people and utilize it as a “down-time” tool to help me relax and chat when things seem overwhelming.  What I found though was that I was spending more time on MySpace than learning about marketing online - which is the ultimate goal, so I can stop working so much and spend more time with friends and family.

MySpace has been a great blessing and somewhat of a curse all in one. I enjoy getting on and talking to all my new friends, but I enjoy it a little too much and it seems like every time I log on I have about 20-30 new messages from friends that I need to reply to. Sometimes it seems like too much and I end up deleting some messages without replying - generally the ones with people asking me to hook up with them for lunch, dinner, a drink, etc., but it is not necessarily because I do not like them, I just do not know them. I guess others are a little quicker to jump out and meet people online but it is something that I still do not feel comfortable with.

Anyone else have an opinion on this? How safe is it to meet someone you hardly know from an online network?

Working hard for a day off

Well, since my blog is fairly new, I can probably count on one hand how many people are actually reading it, but for those that are I decided to update it.

The end of the month is always rough for me because I am trying to get my patient load knocked out and the beginning of the month is rough because I have to get a jump start on the new month.

The good news is, that after 2 weeks without a day off, I think I may get two in a row next Sunday and Monday. I plan on taking Dana (my daughter) to the mall in Mobile and spending a day out shopping and “out of town”. Monday, I will be spending some time learning more about marketing online so I can start moving in the right direction with my marketing efforts.

For those that have been following my progress, I have learned a lot about marketing and various ways to go about it online and have decided to start off utilizing Adsense advertisements on various websites to target PPC (pay per click) advertising revenue. Basically, how it works, is that I create a website (or blog etc) with information on a specific topic, write information in it, and put those little ads like you see to the right of this post. When people click on those ads I make money. The click rates vary from a few cents per click to over $20 per click depending on the subject matter.

Some Adsense-based marketers (the more successful ones) actually research their keywords and post based on high paying keywords but I will be starting off based on my mentor’s suggestion, and writing about things that I enjoy…

I will keep you updated!

Progress update for January 12th

It has been roughly a week since I started my venture in Internet Marketing and I have to tell you, Damion (my mentor) is a slave driver…

Okay, maybe not that bad but he is definitely pushing me to be the best that I can. I started on MySpace getting my friends list up to meet new people and such but kind of lost track of the end goal. I will tell you, that place is addicting. I have met several really nice people and it seems like I spend more time talking to people and “pimping my profile” than anything else.

Today was really rough. In between my work schedule, I was able to pull down a few hours to learn some more stuff on the IM side and have started making a plan on how I want to approach this. By Wednesday of next week, I have to decide what my first path will be.

As part of my coaching program, I will be starting off in one specialty (or line) of marketing and then I will move on to others after I have a good grasp on the first. Right now, it looks like my primary path may be either Adsense (Damion’s specialty), Affiliate Marketing, or Product Creation (writing a book). I have pretty concise goals on what I can do on any of these but it seems that the product creation route may be out as that is one of the hardest to master. It is not hard to write a book - it is hard getting it sold. That leaves me with Adsense and Affiliate Marketing.

I am leaning more towards Adsense for two reasons. The first being that it is my mentor’s specialty so I know I can learn a lot from him on this, but the second is because it is easily implemented across multiple platforms. My own theory is that it may be easier to get clicks on ads than trying to sell a product as such in Affiliate Marketing.

I have not fully made up my mind yet, but I think I may be able to give my answer by Monday instead of Wednesday. These are my options - now I have to make a choice.

Until next time…

Help me get a new theme for my blog

Dane Morgan is entered in the blog cup and is in a very tight competition. Him and Matt Nutts are very close in the second round and Dane really wants to win.

The first round of the competition Dane gave the person who voted the most a free WordPress theme that is fully customized (Damion won it) and he is doing the same thing for this round.

I can only vote so many times a day though, but, if you go vote for him and tell him I sent you there then I will get points too which will help me win the theme.

Go help Dane win the blog cup and help me win a new theme!

My head is about to explode

When I went to nursing school, I knew that I was in for a long learning process and I stuck with it because I had to. I knew that I wanted to be nurse and I knew that it would take the long hours and hard studying to get through it. I eventually graduated with a 3.6 GPA so all the hours of studying paid off. After 7 years of working as a nurse, I have discovered that it really is not for me but it has become what I am accustomed to. I enjoy the work but I do not enjoy the hours and some of the perverted old men I have to deal with.

A few weeks ago when I decided to start trying my luck with online earnings, I knew it was what I wanted to do and I know that eventually all the hard work will pay off but I was grossly unaware of all the learning that would be involved. I just started working with Damion to  start this adventure 2 days ago and I already have a blog and a MySpace page - two things that I NEVER would have thought I would have. I must say that through my start-up last night, I have already met a couple of interesting people on MySpace that live in my neck of the woods and one that even knows Damion (small world).

Since I was off work today I took my mentor’s advice and visited about 10 different websites to start learning some information and even read two of his books. I was simply amazed at how much information is available and how many niches there are to this Internet Marketing stuff. I know that I have a very long road ahead of me but I am giving it my all!

Today, some of the things I learned were:

  • How to Edit my blog posts, pages, comments, and links
  • How to add plug-ins to my blog
  • How to add comment links and images on MySpace (thanks Marion)
  • How to make a ‘basic’ MySpace profile
  • What is Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising
  • What is Affiliate Marketing
  • How to set up a blog from scratch (very good read book on this)
  • How to use deleted and expired domains to generate traffic (just scratching the surface on this)

I feel kind of like Neo (Keanu Reeves) in The Matrix right after he did his first day of “training” after being plugged in to the computer to learn fighting and such. While I did not learn Kung-Fu or Karate, I did learn a lot today and it is very draining yet very satisfying as well. I do not remember ever feeling this good after a day of learning when I was in school.

Today has been a very rough day but very rewarding as well. I do not have to go into work until 2 tomorrow so I will be using the time in the morning to learn more about MySpace, how to edit my profile to include all the nice designs etc., and to expand some knowledge on affiliate marketing and product rights such as Resell Rights, Private Label Rights, etc.

So long for now - see you next time!
