My experience with MySpace

When I first started trying to make money online, my mentor told me it would be a tough road to start and recommended that I create a MySpace account to meet people and utilize it as a “down-time” tool to help me relax and chat when things seem overwhelming.  What I found though was that I was spending more time on MySpace than learning about marketing online - which is the ultimate goal, so I can stop working so much and spend more time with friends and family.

MySpace has been a great blessing and somewhat of a curse all in one. I enjoy getting on and talking to all my new friends, but I enjoy it a little too much and it seems like every time I log on I have about 20-30 new messages from friends that I need to reply to. Sometimes it seems like too much and I end up deleting some messages without replying - generally the ones with people asking me to hook up with them for lunch, dinner, a drink, etc., but it is not necessarily because I do not like them, I just do not know them. I guess others are a little quicker to jump out and meet people online but it is something that I still do not feel comfortable with.

Anyone else have an opinion on this? How safe is it to meet someone you hardly know from an online network?
